Style points for Ramy's walk-off
Is it better to take your helmet off after a walk-off hit or leave it on? David Ortiz, it's his signature move. He made it en vogue to take it off and give it a little flip. He's the first guy -- he gets all the credit for doing that. "Ramy" kept it on. I think it hurts worse when you're slapped on the helmet than your bare head.
You don't get too many moments in your career to do that, to enjoy that. That trot around the bases is a pretty special moment.
He did it against the Brewers last year. That game against Milwaukee is still my most exciting moment in this jersey playing for the Cubs. That was the turning point in our season, and a great coming together against a tough closer, Francisco Cordero. Today, same thing. After losing three to Tampa, and getting back at 2 in the morning, and having to show up for a 1 o'clock game, you'd think all the cards are stacked against us. Our big guys stepped up. Ted pitched well, our bullpen pitched well and our big guys stepped up.

I was at the game today! I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed watching you and the rest of the team play. It was a bit nerve racking at some points but it was by far the best game that I have been to all year. A great comeback from a hard road trip. Hope to see it continue!

Mark,
It seems that you get it. You seem like one of us, only with talent enough to be on the field instead of in the bleachers. Obviously I don't know what goes through the mind of a big leaguer, but hearing you talk on the radio and the personal stories you give us on this blog - well - it means a lot to me to know that one of the guys I root for on the field is a good guy off. As a dad, a teacher, and a baseball coach - I thank you for giving us these insights into a major league player's life.
Thank you.

I almost steered myself into the median, screaming my damn head off at Pat & Ron's call for Rami's last hit. But I woulda died happy...! I LOVE THIS TEAM. And now CSN is showing an encore of the game - fantastic!
Keep it going!

Hello! I am a new Cubbies fan... I haven't been through the tough times like the tried and true, but I do have a very deep respect for the team, especially this year. It's a true testament of how strong the team is to be able to dust yourselves off after a challenging on-the-road game. Kudos to AR and D. Lee! By the way, thanks for signing my glove at the Hall of Fame Game. I was the one that screamed, "Mr. DeRosa!!" I forgot to tell you that you are my favorite Cub - I was a little nervous :P. xoxo, Betty

I'm still pissed about that son of a bitch Ozzie Guillen saying the Cubs have non-legit, uninterested fans and the 'White Sox' do. EVERYBODY but that idiot knows better than to question the loyalty of this fanbase. There's teams out there who've won VERY recent World Series titles and fail to fill 10,000 seats.
Anyway, that was a great game - way to stick it to those **** talkers. I didn't get to see the whole game but I got home
just in time to see the good part. I'm glad you guys can put the
losses in FL in the past. I think it's pretty damn good to go over 70 games without losing three in a row at any point.
I believe.

That was a fantastic finish! After the Tampa series, it was great to see such a rebound, especially in the form of Aramis and Derrek. With them heating up, this summer looks to be a lot of fun for everyone.
I personally love the helmet toss, but I understand why it's almost needed upon reaching homeplate. You guys really go crazy! It's such an awesome sight, and one I will never tire of seeing.
Get some sleep, and good luck the rest of this weekend Mark!

Congratulations on today's win, Mark. You guys have already given us so many special moments this season, but I just know there are many, many more to come.
And I also realize and appreciate that, as a player, you're doing the right thing by not openly responding to Kenny Williams' or Ozzie's comments. Nonetheless, I hope you and all of your teammates have their words taped to the insides of your lockers and will be using them to motivate yourselves throughout this series and this season.
For, as you well know, there are thousands upon thousands of "legit" Cubs fans out here who live and die with every inning you guys play and we will stand by you and your teammates through whatever challenges lie ahead.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on this blog.

Mark,
I vote for helmet staying on. Ramy did it right. I stood and clapped at work in my cubicle when he hit the walk-off today. And Ronny was so happy in the 7th inning that he must have said "back-to-back jacks" a dozen times.
Thanks for the posts. We are so happy that you are a Cub.

This win couldn't have been sweeter. My mom and I went nuts watching it.
I got extremely frustrated watching the game early on (on WGN, before I figured out that it was also being aired on CSN). I remember Ken Harrelson saying that if the Cubs wanted to have a slugfest today against the Sox, then they would never match up. He said the Cubs didn't have enough power. And then, of all things, we win the game after 3 home runs in a span of as many innings. I hope he shoved his foot in his mouth for that one.

Hey Mark,
Great game! Keep on winning at Wrigley, cause i will be in Chicago for St. Louis game in August, and i hope you guys win, but i will be pleased just to be there and actually see cubbies play. I am #1 NY Cubs fan and was at Hall of Fame Game. After being a Cubs fan for 22 years i was SO dissappointed not to get to see you guys play, but no one can do anything about weather. But i never left the third base side upper bleachers, and got soaked and hailed on twice! I hope you at least got to tour Hall of Fame, and if not, you should come back, cause usually Cooperstown is beautiful. Thanks for your blog! GO CUBS!

Mark,
Nice team effort in the W today. I can't believe you guys are 30-8 at Wrigley, including 12 in a row. I love you guys no matter what, but I love you even more when you guys beat the Sox. Regarding the helmet flip, I seem to remember you keeping your helmet last season in a game I was at on September 17th against the Reds. You went 5-5 including the game winning single in the 9th. Unless Big Z knocked it off after he jumped out of the dugout, i'm pretty sure the cap stayed on.
Go Cubs!!!

Hey Mark, Its Bart. I dont know if you remember me from the Sports Autohority signing but we talked. I remember asking you whats the best moment you had in a Cubbies uniform and you said the Brewers game. Do you think todays game can surpass that?
And to the other Mark, I was there the 17th to, will go down as the most exciting game ever. I will never forget that game, and Mark going 5-5 with the game winning hit, and having everyone run off on to the field. What a great game. Keep it up!

It was such an amazing game to watch!! I knew you guys would be tired from your traveling and not arriving until early morning, but you really showed the White Sox what your made of. Congrats to all the homeruns and everyone in between that kept the White Sox to just three runs. The Cubs fan base is by far the best! Good luck today, we'll all be rooting for you here in Utah! Oh and thanks for the blogs, I love having inside views on your thoughts and the interview with Theriot was great. It brings you more in touch with the fans and I wish more Cub players did it! Congratulations again!

Mark, I'm watching today's game right now and it is so much fun! I was worried about you guys having to play 6 games on astroturf and then not getting in until early in the morning for a day game. What the heck were the schedulers thinking? Anyway, you guys are fantastic. Nothing will stop you this year. Thanks again for the posts. I love this team. Go Go Go Cubbies!!

Mark,
I was at two of the Tampa Bay games and although you lost both games it was so inspiring to see that the Cubbies never, ever give up. The game was touch and go until the 9th inning and even then, I think the game was taken from you on Wednesday with the high called strike. I love going to baseball games and watching you guys play because I always know that you will give it your all. Even after Big Z was pulled, the Cubs never gave up. And it is so nice to be surrounded by such great fans as well. I was so surprised at how brutal the Rays fans were after the Wednesday loss, when the Cubs fans are always so gracious. We may feel like it is your time to shine and win, but we would never rub it in any one's face.
Mark, you an an all around amazing player. Don't ever get to hard on yourself; just continue to give it your all. You remind me of Sandberg, but you are actually more versatile...
Have a great home stand!

Being at the game Friday was amazing. I am a life-long Cubs fan. I go to games left and right, but the excitement never ends because of games like yesterday and today. I really thought Wrigley was going to implode from all of the jumping going on in the 7th and again in the 9th yesterday. GREAT JOB Mark, GREAT JOB Cubs. I am way to excited and happy to type any more. I'm going to celebrate!

Hey Mark
I remember that game against Milwaukee and I think that was my favorite Cubs moment ever. One thing that stuck out in my mind was when you hugged Aramis in the dugout. That's why you are my favorite Cub. Its much more than a job for you to play for the Cubs. Anyways keep up the good work both on the field and on the computer(especially the field: )). Also hope you make the All-Star team!

Mark,
Cubs fans really appreciate it when the Cub players acknowledge that this Cubs/Sox series is so important to us. There have been years when I would have been happy to have gone 6-156 as long as the 6 wins were against the Sox!
On another note, do pro baseball players wear sunscreen?
Please tell Lou Pinella that Cubs fans must get giddy when they can. We take the living for each day approach. That is how we've gotten through so many painful seasons. This year, THIS YEAR, is when it's going to happen for us. But you know what? If it doesn't, we still love you guys.
Beat the Sox (and everybody else!)

Great start to these home games! I hope you all know how much Cubbie Blue is out there across the country in the stands everywhere you guys play. So just feel that Wrigley electricity every time you take the field - you all are a great bunch of players and we're with you always. I'm not in Chicago any more, but I see you whenever I can. I was at all the games at the Nats this year - Johnson's catch, Geo's swinging struggles, the cold drizzle. More Cubbie Blue than red in those stands - happens all the time. I know you'll turn these road games around. The Cubs have the most loyal fans anywhere - we recognize challenge, struggle, and excellence whenever it presents itself. Keep up the fantastic year! I listen to Pat and Ron when I can too - I grew up watching Ron, so I hope he makes it through this season:)

Hey Mark,
That was definitely a great game all the way through. The pitching did a great job keeping the White Sox at 3 runs and D-Lee and Ramy did one heck of a job coming back to get the win. My family and I are in the process of moving to Kentucky from DC (Dad's in the Army) and I scared the movers when I started screaming when Ramy hit that home run.

Mark,
I might be wrong, but it seems in the last few outings, Carlos is using something new! He holds the ball in front of him, then stairs at the batter, moves his head real quickly as to intimadate the batter. Who knows , I'm sure he'll be fine! My daughter plays college softball, and maybe your the only Italian on the team? She plays center-field, and says, I've got the speed to beat Mark. Now, she's only 5'1, and 100 lbs. her name is Angie, and she's a slapper. she'd love to throw the ball back n' forth with you. like in Pre-game. if they allow such a thing? 2.57 from home to first, and that is 60' though. Rich Thanks!

Mark, I am a 56year old woman who bleeds Cubbie Blue.
I never miss a game on tv. Unfortunately for me I have
never been able to afford a live game at Wrigley and even
if I could I have no way to get there. Anyway ..I have a real
positive feeling inside about the team. I just know that this is our year Mark. I am so proud of you all. Win or lose I am
always all cubs no matter how much people bug me about it. Tonight's game was awsome as I wanted so much for you
guys to beat those Whitesox. Boy...I wanted to punch Ozzie
for that crack about the rats in the batting cage. What a
sore loser !!! Also please tell Sweet Lou that Vicki from
Sterling, Illinois thinks he is the best manager on the planet
and I love it when he kicks some dirt. So....Thankyou and
all my sweet little Cubbies for giving my life so much joy.
I live for the games. I just wish you could all here me screaming my head off every time you all whack in those
runs. GO CUBS GO!!!! Vicki

Mark,
You guys have really been a pleasure to watch this season and it just keeps getting better. It's so great to see you rebound from that tough sweep at Tampa and come home and take care of business. You keep finding ways to win despite the tough injuries and challenges presented (like the astro turf). This is truly a special team. I'm also very impressed with how classy everyone was this weekend despite all the controversy surrounding the series. Those South Siders really had it in for you guys but you shut them up the right way - with your impressive at-bats. Go get 'em on their home turf next weekend!

Mark,
What a great weekend! This Cub team is so much fun to watch and I never miss a game. I've been to Spring Training for a week and 5 regular season games so far. I'm also making the trip to St. Louis for the 4th of July weekend series. It truly is a team effort this year. When someone is struggling a little bit, there is always someone else getting hot to keep the team rolling. It's a very well balanced team.
On another note, I'm excited to get a chance to meet you later today in Whiting, IN at your autograph signing. I believe in this team more than any other Cub team and I've decided to start working to get the entire 2008 Cubs autographs on my Jersey.

Hey Cubbies....You know ..After the games at Wrigley
there are always comments about how nuts the fans
go and the wonderful atmosphere that helps to pump
the team up. Don't you all know that when you are at away games that millions of people are in front of the tv. screaming their hearts out too ? Maybe when you're
away you can psych yourselves out by imagining the
commotion and electricity we are sending in spirit. I know
it's not the same...however for those of us who only are
able to see you on tv and we are screaming just as loud as
the people in the stands ...well I just wanted you to know
that ALL your fans are with you even if you can't see us. :)
maybe if you guys keep that in mind it will help you on
the road....Anyway...you guys are the best and have
been playing like a world series team !!! This is the Year
I BELIEVE!!!!!!!

I was at the game on Friday and Sunday night, and even though we swept the Sox, Friday's game was much sweeter! Nothing beats a walk off home run! I still remember that game last year on a Friday afternoon when Ramirez hit it in the 9th to win it against Milwaukee. This year is really special. I'm happy that you guys are doing well and even more thrilled at every game I get to watch as a true Cubs fan. It's been magical so far!!
I ran into you and Ted on Friday after the game and you were of course, gracious and down to earth. Thanks for being a nice guy! Here's to continued success this year!

Hey Mark,
Last night was a sad loss considering how hard you all tried to rally back, but you can't win them all so tonight you can start the winning streak again. :D The Cubs this year are an amazing team and definitely higher class than the trash talking White Sox. Again, thank you for the blog. I am unfortunately one of those that don't get to come see your games in person which is the reason for Utah being a crappy place to live. Haha. I do watch the games in front of my tv and yell as loud as the fans, so when you go on the road, I agree with a previous comment on this blogm take that with you because there are many of us screaming our heads off...yelling at umpires for bad calls...jumping up when that ball flies into the stands...just all around supporting you guys as you battle to win. We love you all! Wishing I could meet some of you in person in Utah... Milli

I have a 15 and 12 year old boys and they both love to play baseball and love watching the Cubs. You by far are my favorite Cub, You give 100% on every play, Run out routine grounders and truley play like you love to play. If more players would model their play after you, the MLB would be a lot more enjoyable to watch. The Braves loss is our gain, Sucks to be them, I tell my boys to model their play after you and play hard and they will succeed. GO CUBBIES I have been waiting a long time for a great season and you guys are giving us one.
