Battling in the Central and back to blogging

To get off to the good start we did in April was a direct reflection of being familiar with Lou and the staff and the guys in the clubhouse, and building real good team chemistry, and just knowing what Lou expects of us. He knows our strengths and weaknesses, and he's going to put us in positions to succeed.

From that standpoint, I'm sure everybody went to Spring Training relaxed and ready to go to work. We were also fired up about getting off to a hot start because we realized how hard a grind it was for us last year to win the division. I feel like it was so hard to win the divison that it kind of took something out of us in the postseason. We got outplayed and flat out beat three games in a row by Arizona, but I still felt that when we won the division, it was a huge sigh of relief instead of, "This is the first step on the way to winning a championship."

Those back-to-back losses to Milwaukee and St. Louis Thursday and Friday were tough. Every year, you have stretches like this of heart-breaking losses and stuff that you don't expect to happen happens. Every year, you know that coming in, and it still doesn't make it any easier. Everyone's frustrated, everyone wants to do more. From my standpoint, I started the first couple weeks really swinging the bat nice, and these last two or three weeks, it's really tailed off. I put a lot of pressure on myself in this lineup because I feel like you can't always expect Aramis and D-Lee and those guys to do it every day. I feel like if I can contribute -- Fukudome is always on base -- if I can find a way to hit the some balls in the gap, games might be different. I know every guy on the team goes back to their room at night wondering what they could've done to make a bigger impact in the game.

As far as those back to back losses, you put them behind you. We play so many games that it doesn't allow you to harp on the negatives or the positives for long. The game against Milwaukee was tough because it set up so perfect for us, and Friday could've been different. I think Soriano showed why he's got a flair for the dramatic and why so many people enjoy coming to watch him play. The guy's battling to get back out there after sustaining an injury, and he has a little trouble with a few fly balls, and next thing you know, he pops the ball out of the yard, and that's Sori, that's him. He's just got a flair for playing the game.

I think from his standpoint, he wants to help us so much. He feels like he's gotten off to a slow start, and he's been out of the lineup. I think sometimes players lose sight of the fact of how much respect and how appreciated they are by their teammates. You don't sit there and talk about it. I remember last year, we ran into that early on. Guys were scuffling and the lineups were shuffling, and rightfully so. I think players need to remember at the end of the day, their teammates know what they're about. We're around them so much. Sori's going to have a great year. This was just a blip on the radar screen for him.

Thanks for joining me here, and any suggestions for a permanent title for my blog are welcomed.

I just found this blog from the cubs website, and I wanted to tell you that I'm a huge fan of yours Mark. I really appreciate you going out there and putting your all into so many games.

I hope you guys are able to keep up this pace in April, hopefully winning some more of those close games in a string together like you've done this month. Talk about a good way to get momentum in your favor from day to day and build up confidence. There's nothing better as a fan during the regular season than really feeling like your team is going to score in good situations, rather than just hoping they might get someone across the plate on a big hit.

We love having you on the team, Mark. How about "On De-Road with DeRosa" for your blog? Sorry if it's been suggested already.

Where would we be without you on this team, Mark? Anybody that knows baseball knows who the true MVP of this team has been for the past two seasons. Just a suggestion, try to be more patient at the plate these days, my man; stop trying to murder that thing. I know you desperately want to bring them home when you're at the dish, but all the pressure is on the pitcher, not you. Chill out. Anyway, how about "De-Scoop with De-Ro"? By the way, my wife is from Jersey as well, and we're both big fans. Good luck, man.

Wow De-Ro this is great! This is good for us fans to get and inside look at whats its like to be a Pro player! Hands down you were my MVP for 2008! Your hustle, hard work, and versitilty is more important to me than HRs and RBIs! Quick question. Do you enjoy playing all the different positions that you do? I love when I do in my Beer League softball games: except I'm the guy with the eye-black! (maybe I take it to seriously!) I know me and all my fellow Hoosier Cub Fan friends are pulling for you this year! Im heading to Cincy on Weds. to see you and the boys put it to the Redlegs!! Go Cubs

Hey Mark,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this or not, but since I couldn't find anywhere else, I'll put it here.

It's great that you're doing us - for us die hard Cubbie fans, those of us who would die to talk with Derrek Lee or Geovany Soto, it's kind of surreal to read something written by someone who talks with those guys everyday. It's also great to be able to get the inside story, so to speak, on what's going on with the Cubs from an actual player.

Anyway, keep it up, we love you on the Cubs,

A Fourteen-Year-Old Die-hard

Mark-thanks so much for taking the time to give your fans your personal insight. My son and I are interested in reading many more posts from your standpoint. We especially like your positive team comments and holding yourself accountable. Don't forget to reward yourself for the jobs you're doing well. Keep your expectations high- we like to dream BIG. The gaps are calling for ya!

I think the two previous posters w/ blog title suggestions are right on the money. It needs to be De-(something) with DeRosa. Very original and catchy! "On De-mark with Derosa! Thanks again we love ya..........

Mark,
I love reading about the games from your perspective! I appreciate your humility, but sometimes I want some swagger coming from your direction! While I completely appreciate (and in awe of) the contributions that D, Rami, and Soriano make to the team, yours is the one that stands out in my mind when I remember 2007. I meant what I said at the Cubs Convention- I believe that you earned the right to start. Granted, I meant at 2nd, but whether you're at 2nd, 3rd, left, or even 1st, you belong in that lineup. There don't seem to be many veteran (or even rookies) left in the league like you, who will run out there every day at any position to help the team... and there aren't many who are so honest about their mistakes. However, I want you to know that in my opinion, you are so underrated... you are invaluable to our team both with your playing ability and just your presence in the clubhouse. I think they should have a utility category for the All-Star game and you can go in a show how it's done at every position!!!

Rhiannon

DeRo!!
I don't want to sound like one of those babbling meatheads that put the team success on one guy, because it's not the case for any team (except one that is in last and the few games they win, are because of one guy). My point is that it is great to see a professional that obviously gets paid well and has every opportunity to be a primadonna, be the ABSOLUTE TEAM PLAYER!!! You continue to surprise your fans at all positions (I don't know why we're surprised). For the first time in a long time, this team seems to have an identity, and a good one. Thanks for being a part of it. We like having you here. Now go get Marquis some run support tonight and shut up this cardinals fans!!!
Nate

How about De-Ro Centro

Mark,
Thanks for doing this. It's a pleasure to hear you point of view on the team and other things. It's also been awesome watching you in a Cubs uniform. You have a lot of talent and it's obvious that baseball is what you love.

Thanks,
Jessica

Mark,
What a consumate professional you have proven to be! From the way you support your teammates through tough times to dealing with health issues/rumors during spring training. You are the type of roll model we need in our society. Keep swinging it! P.S. How about "The Down-Lo with DeRo"

Out of all the baseball blogs I read daily to avoid work and waste the company dime on, this is my favorite. Thanks for the insight into the thoughts of a true Cubby! Keep up the good work both on the blog and on the field! Go Cubs!

DeRo!
Thanks for doing this blog as it's great to see a major league player chronicle the season like this for the fans. I really enjoyed it last year and look forward to it again this year. I've been a Cubs fan my entire life and growing up playing baseball I know how important it is to have a player like yourself on a ballclub. Thanks for everything you do out there and we wouldn't be the same team without ya! Let's have a great year and thanks again! As for the name of your blog, I like the suggestion made of "On De-Road with DeRosa" or even "On De-Road with De-Ro". GO CUBS!

Dc

First of all Mark, thank you VERY much for taking the time to blog. I can't say that I read them all, but I read the one you wrote after game 3 of last years playoff series against the D-Backs. I can't imagine how frustrating that series must have been for the whole team. Ted Lilly burrying his glove on the mound at Chase Field demonstrates the way Cubbie Nation felt. Your blogs really put the fans in touch with the ball club and you as an individual. I echo the sentiment of you as the team MVP. Anyone that puts in the time and practice to be available to play almost every position on the field is a rare commodity (besides, I can move you all up and down my fantasy lineup). Also I have to thank you- and only you for converting my wife into a Cubs fan. She loves the Cubs because she loves Mark DeRosa. Look for a sign in the stands when the team visits the D-Backs this year, she is so excited for you to see what she has been working on. It reads "Mark, you are De cream in my coffee, De Rosa in my gardens." Needless to say, she is so pleased with herself for coming up with that. Good luck this season, and if fate would have it and the Cubs meet up with Arizona in the playoffs again this year I hope you give 'em hell.
Uncle Rodeo

P.S. You should call your blog "My Blog- by Mark DeRosa" ~Wow, is that the best I can do?

Hey Mark,
Excited to hear about the season from your point of view. The team looks great so far...looking forward to seeing what you guys pull off the rest of the season. As for an official name of your blog, how about "Second Opinion with Mark Derosa" or "On Second Thought with Mark Derosa"?

Looking forward to watching the game tonight and writing plenty about your 'web gem' and walk-off home run. A performance like that couldn't come against a more appropriate opponent or at any better time. Let's reclaim the Central tonight! Go Cubs Go!

Hi Mark,
This is so great you are doing this. I LUV it!!! I really enjoyed reading the blogs at the end of the season last year. I am now a big fan of yours. I have always been a Cubs fan, but never really had a favorite. When you joined the team last year, I thought WOW this guy's really awesome! I really appreciate your talent. You are a great ball player and probably really cool too. Have a great season!

Maybe you could call this thing the Line of De-Markation. That's probably a bit of a stretch.
In regard to your batting tapering off, here's the thing, Mark. You're always best when you're working counts. Doesn't matter if you're on a hot streak or not; it's just the type of hitter you are. Compound that with the fact that you've got a guy like Kosuke hitting in front of you, and the potential speaks for itself: there's a 5-6 combination that between them has the potential to see between 8 and 12 pitches, on average (figuring that if you each manage to work the count to 3-2 with an extra foul or two in there somewhere). You end up forcing an opposing pitcher into a situation where he has to throw a decent number of pitches to only two guys, which, even if both you and Fukudome make outs, sets the stage for Soto against a pitcher who may be a bit fatigued by that point. You're in a situation, Mark, where you can set yourself up as "the other 1-2-3 hitters," in a sense. All you have to do is focus on your own plate discipline, be patient, and realise that you have the tools athletically and mentally to be a high-OBP type of guy and a consistent .300-plus hitter.
cheers,

Mark!
Thank you for your drive and competitiveness. As a Soldier away from Chicago its good to hear a game or catch it on TV, personally it keeps me going. This years team has spirit. When you or the team is having a bad time and not getting the breaks, remember to "Never Say Die". You epitimize this spirit in your comments. What I love best about the team and you this season is taking a bat for the team. Selfsacrifise, doing whatever is needed to help the team win. Good Luck tonight! Go Mark! Go Cubs!

Hello,

I just wanted to thank you for this site.

Living 1,200 miles from Chicago is frustrating because there is so little discussion of Cub games. I need to be able to get to a site that gives some perspective on what is happening and how my team feels.

Thank you for doing the blog and extend my thanks to you and the entire team for providing their best everyday. It's great to be a Cubs fan!

Hey Mark, keep up the great work, you're doing great! I love how in the your blog you talk more about the team, and not about you personally. It shows how great of a team player you are. You're a great role model! You're definitely a leader of this team and just remember, Cubs fans love you. Just keep playing hard buddy! I love these Blogs too, it's great to hear your thoughts about everything. Keep it going, Dero!!

Hi Mark,

Possible blog titles:
"Inside Digs by (Mark) DeRosa"
"Digging in with (Mark) DeRosa"

Thank you for updating us with your blogs. It is always an interesting perspective and a fun read. Mark, you're the quintessential team player...anywhere the Cubs need you, you're willing to play. Your work ethic is commendable.

Good luck with the rest of the season.
-Stephanie

I'm so glad to see you've started this up again! Thanks, Mark, from a fan in the Great White North. :-)

I'm very much looking forward to reading your thoughts on an incredibly exciting season, and I'm also continually awed by your versatility out on the field. As far as a title for your blog, I vote you use actual words in your title, like "Debrief with DeRosa", or just something like "Positions" with Mark DeRosa, since you play everywhere and you're also blogging to share where you stand on things. That's all I've got for now!

Blog-a-Rosa?

This is probably why I end up with generic titled things. I'm better at nicknames for players, but then most of those are probably not good for public or minor consumption!

Glad to see you're blogging again, hopefully with a much better ending this year!

Mark--
I've always enjoyed reading your blogs and the insight into the game. Good to see it back! Anyway you're an old school gamer and the bat will heat up again here soon. As for the name for your blog it may be out there or a little goofy, but what about "On the Mark with DeRosa".

Hey De-Ro, I think you're a wonderful asset to the Cubbies!! I think you humble yourself too much and do not give the credit you deserve. You are in the same group as D-Lee, Rami, Soriano, Fukodome,Zambrano. The Cubbies have a great team. Everyone contributes and is valuable. it's fun to watch and I wear my Cubs gear with pride here in Philly. It's going to be a great season. Thanks for blogging. This will be quite fun and interesting to read your perspective. I feel closer to home and in touch with my hometown team by reading this blog and going to Cubs website. Thanks again. Julia

Mark,
I really enjoy watching you on the field and fin your blog an interesting read as well...an idea for the title: DeRosa's Dish.
Just an idea...keep up the hard work and continued success to you and the team.
Steve

Hey D-Ro,

One of the many things we love about you here in our Cubs home, is that even if you're having a tough time hitting the ball..you ALWAYS work the count. You are such a team player, such a smart athlete and just seem like an all-around good guy. Don't be so hard on yourself!

Mark, you definitely do not give yourself the credit you should. I think you are one of the most valuable members of the team. I really enjoy watching you play and you can tell from your reactions that you really care. Good luck to you and alll of the guys. I will be in Houston on the 19th and I will be wearing my DeRosa jersey.

Rebel

Marky Mark I have had you on my fantasy baseball team since day one and there are no regrets. I definately appreciate the work you do for the team and your fans. God Bless Lee and Ramirez for who they are but so far this year, you and Theriot are my fave players. You guys are so versatile and tenacious, the cubs wouldn't be the cubs they are now without you guys. Keep handling business, keep hitting runs. You Rock!!!!

I don't know about using it for a Blog Title, but every game, before the line-ups are announced, our family likes to play a little game. We call it "Where On The Field Is Mark DeRosa?" We are all so impressed with the fact that you can play so many positions and switch from day-to-day (or inning-to-inning sometimes). You are a great example of a "team player". Keep up the good work - Go Cubs Go!

And, by the way, we voted for Michael Johns every week!

Mark,
I enjoy the blog and enjoy watching you play. With your versatility and hard play, I'm really glad you're on our team. I have a lot of respect for how well you handle the Brian Roberts rumors and being moved around the field all the time. There are a lot of players that wouldn't handle those things as professionally as you do. I've always thought that we need more guys like you. I know you've mentioned a time or two how special it is to be a Cub and play at Wrigley. As a huge Cubs fan, I love to hear that. I think it is something special.

I've been a Cubs fan since the 1984 season and I doubt there are few others who are as die-hard as me. I literally check every major national and local sports website I know of several times a day, every day of the year for Cubs news. Been doing that for a few years now I can't watch the games. I've been living in Colombia where baseball isn't too popular except along the coast where Orlando Cabrera and Edgar Rentaria are from, but I follow along on the internet.

What I'd be interested in hearing about is how Kosuke's coming along with his english and how he gets along with the guys. I'm really glad he's had the start he has. I can imagine how rough it'd be on him and with the fans if he struggled to adapt. I'd also be interested in hearing how you guys have improved the on-base percentage so much. The Cubs have never been known as an OBP team. Is that Gerald Perry at work or Lou or just coincidence?

My suggestion on the name is DeRosa Debrief.

here's my suggestion: Mark...My Words

Mark,

I'm so glad you are back to blogging. I really enjoyed reading your blogs during the play offs. I just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work that you do, and for being such a great team player. I know the result of last year was disappointing, but I have a feeling that this year will turn out a lot better. I know that you will be a big part of it too. Again, thanks for everything that you do. By the way, I'm glad that you are feeling better.

Michelle

Mark,

I have to echo the thanks for blogging and respect of all the fans above. Wrigley hasn't seen a man as good all over the diamond in my 30 years watching.

"In the dugout with Mark DeRosa" or "Around the Diamond."
Jonathan

I say call it derosabomb!

Hey Mark,
Just wanted to say, thank you for all of the hard work you and the guys have been doing so far this season. Having the best April in a long time has probably been a blessing in disguise. Keep up all of your great work, and let the others know that too. I (like many Cubs fans) are really pulling for this team this year, and I know you'll make the best of it. Oh, and thank you for coming over here to Chicago, we need more versatile players like yourself--who truly love the game as well. Hopefully you can stay awhile after too.

Blog Suggestion (maybe:) Foul Runner Going or, Line Drive. Generic I know, but could work?

Thanks, again Mark! Keep your head up, and keep beating the tar out of that ball!

Mark:
I enjoyed reading your blog. You have a very honest and straightforward point of view. Your a great player with what seems to be a great attitude. Cub fans always know you are giving 110%!
Here's a few suggestions for the name of your blog:
1. Mark's Marks (think about it)
2. How I See It
3. Catch Up with Mark
4. From Where I Stand
Hope those suggestions help.

Mark,
You are the man. Although I love what D-Lee, Fukudome, Ramy, Big Z, and Fonsy do for the team, I can't get enough of how you and Reed play. The hustle and determination you two show is invaluable, and you guys represent Cubbie Nation perfectly. I can't wait for October, you guys are bringin the swagger back to Wrigleyville. I can't wait to be there again at Wrigley for the playoffs, and I know its gonna go further this year. Keep up the hustle and hard-nosed style.
--thanks for the auto on the jersey at Spring Training.
---how about "On De-Road with DeRosa"

Mark, for the life of me I will NEVER understand how this team can crank out 12 runs one day, then the very next day make an opposing pitcher that is marginal at best look like Cy Young! How in the heck does that happen?! To me, there's no excuse. And this pitching staff have got to get it together or we're looking at 101 years of frustration.

I always found it fascinating thinking about the life of a major league baseball player. There is a lot of things that go on behind the scenes, and this blog is a great way to connect with the fans. The end of a tough 3 game series with the Cardinals and a whole plane trip to think about what went on and what could been done differently. That is the great thing about baseball, Bob Brenly talks about it all the time, there are games everyday and you are able to flush the day before. Anaylze during the flight then put your head to the pillow and its a new day. I love baseball and I think it would be awesome to show up to the field everyday, a new challenge and new opportunity.
Thanks for the blog it gives us a look into the life of a major league ballplayer.

As for a title to your blog might I suggest "Mindful Musings of Mark Derosa" and if that is to long then maybe "Cleat's Off" with Mark Derosa, or just "Cleat's Off"

Mark,

Looking forward to spending a few days watching you guys in Cincinnati this week...We will be cheering you on from the bleachers with the rest of all the Cubbies fans out there!!! We love you guys and we look forward to a great season!!! Thanks for all you do for the team and the fans.

Mark...

I think your blog is a great way for you to communicate and share your honest, heartfelt thoughts with all of us Cubs fans! You're our link with "inside" information and thinking that keeps us updated, not only with your thoughts, but how you see it through the other players eyes, too! I'd call you our "Cubs Connection"...my segue into what I came up with for your blog name..."The Cubs Connection".

Thanks for sharing, and being willing to be such a team player wherever you're placed in the field/lineup! I hope your attitude will permeate the entire team! Keep up the good work...and GO CUBS!!!

Can you tell Soriono to stop swinging at balls in the dirt? It would be nice to see him not strike out on 3 straight pitches everytime.

You're doing a great job DeRo. The hitting streak was awesome! Keep up the good goos hitting and fielding wherever you are on teh field.

Mark...

Thank you for the respect you show all Cubs fans by posting your thoughts about what it's really like to be a major league baseball player. Like everyone else who's posted here, I'm a huge life-long fan but now I live in the frozen tundra of North Dakota. There are a lot of Cubs fans here, which you wouldn't expect. Can you tell us how you prepare for each game? Some of the pitchers you've played against before, but some you haven't. How much time do you spend on different things such as hitting, fielding and just plain working out? No matter what you call your blog, I'm going to read it, because you have really made an impact on the team, and your professionalism has really made a difference to the Cubs. I think you've found out how much the fans love this team.

I just want to say that you guys are doing a fantastic job this season. You guys have shown improvements as a team. Now, you all just need to take it as a game a time. Have fun and don't put too much pressure on yourself. And just remember, there's CUBS fans everwhere. You're a great player Mark, keep it up.

Great season, Mark, we're all really proud of the way this team has gelled ~ it's going to be a fun season for those of us in the stands.

Hey Mark, looking good this year......keep it up. Tell Uncle Lou I said hi.

thanks for your time sharing thoughts and insights. as a cubs fan of 30+ years it is exciting to see players that want to win and mgmt. that makes the same effort. i wish you the rewards deserving a player that fills in wherever there is a hole as you have proven your value. what a celebration it could be to win it all...

Hey Mark, thanks for keeping up with your blog and keeping the fans informed. As a lifelong cub fan it is apparent to me that there is real chemistry on this team.....more so than any cub team in recent memory. I understand the ups and downs of the game and in the end the law of averages will prevail and Sori WILL hit his stride. Thank god we have guys like you, Ronnie, Reed, Fontenot etc. who step up and make big contributions when we need them. Keep it up! You're a hell of Cub!

Mark Me Down

Mark,
Your blog is refreshing and us Cubs fans, who want desperately to be involved with the team in any way possible, truly enjoy your perspectives. I feel that your humility combined with a true understanding of the game make you the perfect person to speak directly to the fans via this blog. Thank you for being the player that you are and putting the team first and foremost. Many players say they want "to do what they can to help the team win," but we all know that is not the case. I am sure the boys in the clubhouse know that we are rooting for them no matter what -- and I will be doing so in Cincy on Wednesday.

Finally, to the other fans, let's not boo any Cub for any reason. If someone has a bad inning, a bad game, or a rough stretch, they are still sporting the Cubbie blue and we should just cheer louder. Whaddya Say?

Hey Mark
Thanks for posting your blog its really nice to know whats going on. Do you ever care what postion Sweet Lou puts you at? You guys are doing great so far I think you guys can win it all this year and break that freakin Billy Goat Curse!!!!!!

#1 12yr old Cub fan

In my house we call you Superosa! It is a pizza/Italian restaurant chain in Chicago. But I'm not sure if it is a very good blog name. How about "A Dose-a of DeRosa"??

Mark--I really love this Cubs team. As a fan for 30+ years, I would like everyone on the team to know how much we appreciate what each of the players brings to the team.

I love it that Reed Johnson has been so good, that you can play just about every position on the field (I wonder if there is any position you would say no to?), that as a team, everyone is taking more pitches and making the most of every at bat (Ronny Cedeno especially comes to mind), that Kosuke brings so much energy to the game, that Geo has taken the the starting position and done GREAT...Man, I could go on and on...

I really just want to tell you and the team that as a fan, I really appreciate everyone's efforts.

Good Luck...Let's win the Division!!

Mark,
I sure wish you guys would do a sacrafice bunt more often. I was at Sunday's game against St. Louis and there were a couple of occasions where I wanted to scream out "bunt." It seems to me when things are tight and guys are on base we need to advance them any way possible and this sometimes means "bunt."

Hi Mark,
We love you and think you are the best all around player in the major leagues and certainly very valuable for the team. I've been a Cubs' fan all my life and like all fans, I'm hoping for a Cubs World Series win soon! Keep up the great work!

Mark,

Thank you for caring about how the fans feel. Some of us have died with the Cubs year in and year out. Even the White Sox have won the World Series recently.

I can't understand why your prior team let you go, but we are elated to have you be a Cub. Your versatility is incredible. I have NO complaints about you or your play or how you swing at pitches.

Just keep up the good work.

Hey Mark! It's good to hear some thoughtful words from the inside for a change, rather than the manufactured and predictable stories the media seems to spoon-feed us.

Anyway, just want you to know that I'm a big fan of yours. I don't think that people outside of Cubs fans appreciate everything that you bring to the table. I'm sure you are a dream come true to 'ol Lou, since he can pretty much play you anywhere except maybe the announcer's booth.

I was at the game Friday night in St. Louis (drove 4 hours from NE Arkansas), and I have to say that even though we didn't pull that one out, I was proud to be wearing the Cubbie blue. This year just seems different. Guys seem to be playing with more confidence, and the runs you guys are putting up is a beautiful thing to see. Keep making those opposing pitchers work for their outs....I'm loving how patient everyone seems to be at the plate.

Take care, and best of luck for the rest of the season!

Hey, Mark,
First off, I think this is a great idea. Thanks so much for taking the time to talk with us. I am a huge fan. I wonder if you could give us an update on how Kosuke is doing. We don't really hear from him. I can only imagine the difficulty of being in a new country and trying to communicate with teammates while speaking Japanese. I just wonder how he's fairing here, so far. He's a mystery, right now. While watching the games, I never really see him talking or interacting with the other members of the team. I am sure I speak for most fans when I say that we are thrilled to have him here. Keep swinging, man! Your a solid bat!

its hilarious how many places they have you playing.

its so hard to fault you when you make errors

Hey Mark,

I wish there was an All Star Game voting option for all-around all star. If there was, you'd get my vote. As such a versatile player you are huge asset to this team, and a huge fan favorite on the north side. It's thrilling to watch you play, no matter where you're at (infield, outfield, in the batter's box, on the bases - heck, I bet you could catch too!).

Ever night I come home and turn on the game my first question: "Ok, where DeRosa playing tonight." I'm always disappointed when you're not in the line-up, but hey, a guy's gotta rest sometime right? :)

Looking forward to reading your blog this season, it's sure to be a good one. My Cubbies are destined for greatness, and this is the year for sure! I'll be there all the way, and I'm glad you'll be too.

I love that you're doing this again this year, DeRo. It's such a thrill for us, the fans, to see things from the 'inside'--no matter how trivial. LOL Don't be so hard on yourself all the time, man--you're incredibly talented, refreshingly versatile and beloved by the fans--remember it!
As for blog titles..."The Down-low with DeRo"?
Lots of luck--and lots of love~
GO CUBS!!

I love watching you play. My favorite part is waiting for the lineup to find out where you'll be playing for the day! You can do it all.
GO CUBS!

Don't really have a suggestion for a title but i have a suggestion for the team. How about signing or trading for Jacque Jones. I know he isnt off to a good start but he hit well for the Cubs last year and he also brings speed, a god glove, and hes a class act. I dont think he belongs in the A.L. as you can see his average but he helped us win the division last year and could do it again.

Plus you 2 were good friends im thinkin. I remember on September 17 against the Reds and they brought in an outfielder in to the infield for 5 infielders and 2 outfielders. And after you hit and infield hit Jacque Jones came and gave u a hug out on the field and i have a pic of that in my locker at school.

But im sure you've heard that he wont be in a Tigers uniform before to long and it would be great to see him back in Chicago with a Cubs uniform.

Mark, you need to be benched for a couple of days. You are in a batting funk. That error at 3rd was bad.

To jeremynutz..........are u kidding me? Jones back here? Forget what he did late last year! We consistent hitters ALL YEAR! I will take Pie over him any day! And what would we do with Johnson, the Cubs' spark plug?! Reed should be leading off, and Soriano moved way down.

I was really hoping you would bring this blog back into action because so many of us enjoyed it during the playoffs. I think all of us die hard Cubs fans can agree with that. My suggestion is that you get some of your other teammates on board with you. It is a great way for pro ball players to stay connected to the fans. Props to you Mark for doing it first!
I hear what you are saying about Soriano and to be honest I am really sick of fans getting on him. So he's off to a slow start...so what? He's not perfect. He'll warm up at his own pace. I heard someone say today that the Cubs are better when he is not in the lineup. That is just not fair. I'll laugh at that person later when he starts hitting his hot streak.
The one thing I really see that is hurting you all is not scoring with the bases loaded. But I'm sure you'll all try your best to fix that too and that's all we fans can ask for. Just keep playing smart ball like you were!
Now you think that being an English teacher it would be easy for me to come up with a clever blog name...but it is just not flowing tonight. I'll do my best. (Here's a helpful hint though: never use your name or the word blog in your title). How about these: "Clubhouse Rants," or "Where the Ivy Ends." Yup...that all I have my brain is fried! Good luck DeRo and keep us posted lol! ;)

Hi Mark
I'm a big fan of yours. I like how you can be flexibe with all the positions and play good ball. You make me so happy to see on the TV. I saw your five hit game last September against the Reds and congratulations on a good game. Your team has gotten off to a great start. Keep going and be positive and good luck. Your number 1 fan forever

melissa Bleichman Go Cubs and you guys rock

Hi Mark,

You guys are doing awesome. Keep up the good work, and take one for the team. I am glad you guys have Geovany Soto. He went 3 for 3 tonight. Does he have a blog too.

Congrats on being a big part of the historical '08 Cubs. Keep diggin in...Toe the Mark and run the line.

Tough loss tonight. I know you are probably beating yourself up over the error and strikeouts, but its okay. Those of us you are true fans still love you all. Keep up the great work and get them tomorrow night.

Mark,

I just became aware of this blog. This is great for the “know-it-all fan” like myself . I plan to visit often.
As far as blog tittles go, it should reflect you as a player. Something with versatility in the title, how is:
First to third with DeRosa
Taking infield in the outfield with DeRosa
6-4-3 DeRosa to DeRosa to DeRosa
Everywhere with DeRosa

It is great having you this team. Your versatility and/or willingness to play everywhere and hit anywhere in the lineup continue to pay huge dividends. Keep up the good work.
I really like the make-up of this team. The contributions are coming from deep within the roster on a regular basis. To have Fontenot, Cedeno, Johnson, and Blanco all hitting as well as they have is a luxury. Pie is starting to contribute more offensively as well, I’m sure Ward will turn it up a bit when he gets more at bats.
However, it is time to take a day off for some off you guys. There is no reason to watch a regular struggle when there is a .300 hitter sitting on the bench waiting to play. Lou needs to work you and Lee out of the line up for a day or two. Don’t take it the wrong way, it just a day off. Cedeno could cover for you and Ward could use the at bats with a start at first. Of course you could still drive in the winning run with a ninth inning pinch hit.
Also, got to give Hendry and the suits some kudos, they have performed pretty darn well at their jobs too. The Jon Lieber signing is about to become huge and Johnson was a nice signing as well. Let not forget “what’s-his-name” in right.

A suggested name for your blog: DeBlog by DeRosa. Go Cubs!!

Mark,

Thanks for being a stand-up player and sharing your insight. We got a long way to go...and your right, we can win 3 of 3 from anyone. I too feel good about you being at the plate with 2 down and runners in scoring position.

You got "hustle", play with pep in your step on every play. I questioned that in some other players on the team, but it seems a corner was turned. You play hard and I'll cheer loud! Go Cubs!

Mark,
Thanks for writing this blog. It makes us feel like we're part of the team. I've been a Cub fan forever. Please tell the rest of the guys that we appreciate their hardwork. Most of the 'fans' who are so critical would be afraid to stand at the plate let alone be able to hit the ball. Everything will fall into place. This is our year. You guys are the best. My suggestion for the blog name: MARK from all over the PARK.

Hey Mark

I've been following the team pretty close this season. I've found myself going from elated to frustrated and back again. The other day I had to step back and put it into perspective. Every season will have it's highs and lows, man. No team is 100% immune to it. I think that people expect too much from the Cubs - all or nothing - and that's not fair. If you truly root for a team, there's no room for that kind of fairweatherness. If I were to try and put myself in your shoes - I'd go out and do the best I can every day - and that's what you are doing. I feel that the sports media does not like the Cubbies. Every loss gets a thorough highlight. At the start of the season it's, "The Cubs won't do this...The Cubs won't do that". And it's a shame. It is what you make it - its about the present and the future, not the past. Remember Mark - YOUR PAST IS NOT YOUR POTENTIAL.

Hey Mark,
I've been a Cubs fan for at least 40 years and you are one of my favorite Cub players of all time(top 25 for sure and moving up the list). When the Cubs first signed you I said who's that and why? But you grew on me quickly, never guessed you'd have more homeruns then the three big boys the first month or so in 2007.
I remember a mini slump you had last year. Do you think about what helped you get out of that one or others you've had in the past. I hear alot that guys are trying to hard or are thinking to much. You guys have been playing baseball for a long time. You need to go out there and - "DON'T THINK ABOUT IT AND JUST DO IT."
Anyway thanks for the blog and hope you have a Allstar season.
As for the name of your blog- Going with the Chicago sports team theme "Da Cubs Blog"

Mark,
Just wanted to tweak a previous suggestion for your blog name: MARK'S ALL OVER THE PARK

Mark,
I guess you guys are not going to win 162 games this year. You are going to have ups and downs. We as Cub fans know and are used to this. I knew in '84 when the Cubs were up 2-0 on the Padres and the announcer began the program by saying that "No team has ever won the first two games of a National League Championship and not gone to the World Series." that the Cubs were in trouble.
Share with the younger guys to keep the talk of World Series in the club house and just be yourselves. We all support you and we will let the world know when you win. We have some Cardinal Fans that we owe some smack to!!
Blog suggestions "De Cub Ro Marks".
Love you guys!!

GO CUBS!!

Mark-
I can honestly say that you are my all time favorite Cubs player. I've been a Cubs fan all my life but I have never been prouder to be one than this year. I can't get enough of you and the team. You are the most valuable player on this team, there is no doubt about that. You come in every game and give it your all and there is nothing more we can ask from you then that.
You are an All American ball player and you are what makes baseball great. So don't sweat the small stuff. You know that your fans will always be behind you no matter what. I thank you for having this blog and staying connected with your fans, it is so great to get an inside view. You're the best! This is our year!

Thanks again!
Jenn

CUBS FOREVER

Mark- You are my favorite Cub! I appreciate the way you play hard everyday no matter where you're playing. I think your talent gets overlooked (ie: MVP voting) because you don't have a set position. But, to me, that's what makes you so valuable. You're willing to do whatever the teams needs you to do. The consummate team player.

I have been a Cubs fan my whole life. I went to Wrigley for the first time when I was 3 years old. Now that I live in Indianapolis and don't get to see all the games (what's up with that, WGN?), I love being able to read your blog. I still feel connected to my team.

Just relax at the plate. It seems as though you might be over swinging. As Annie Savoy would say......don't think too much.

You rock!!! GO CUBS!

Mark - My suggestion for the blog title would be "Tabula DeRosa". It's a clever play on the kinda famous (but sorta incorrect) latin phrase "Tabula Rosa", which means clean slate. "Tabula DeRosa" would loosely translate to DeRosa's Tablet or DeRosa's Place to Write:-)

John

You are doing a fantastic job and sooooo versatile with all the positions you play, how about "The Versatile Cub Blog"?
Take care, Rich

Mark,

Here I am, down at the bottom of a list of equally starstruck comments, but I just want to say that you've been my favorite Cub since you've been with the team. You're a talented player and you do a great job on the field, wherever they decide to put you. You were fantastic at the plate in April - keep up that patience. Thanks for the blog, too! I saw that you used to keep one, and was disappointed that I'd missed out on hearing what my favorite player had to say in real-time. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the team this season. As for the blog name, I've got nothing clever... Cub-house Insights? Ah, who knows. Take care.

--Megan

I was thinking since you play every position on the field except center, pitcher, and catcher maybe you could name your blog "Up the Middle with Mark DeRosa". This way you could cover all the positions. Anyhow, you're my favorite player in baseball, mostly because of your dedication to your team, and not just yourself. Thanks for all your hard work, I hope to see you when I come and watch the cubs in NY in august.

Hey Mark!!
We are so glad that you are continuing with your blogs, we really enjoying reading your take on everything Cubbie. You are such a big asset to the Cubs this year and last. We do not believe that they would of gone so far without you in the roster. Our veins always run Cubbie blue and our hearts are red for you!!
We have a idea for a name: DaMost'a from DeRosa, but we enjoyed some of the other fans ideas too.
Keep up the GREAT work and keep it looking hot.
Love,
Jodi and Katie
