The Cubby swagger is back!

Derosa500_1 I've been on playoff teams before, and we've either been real offensive or had an unbelievable bullpen or good starting pitching. You always felt like you were missing an ingredient. That's not knocking the players -- I was on the bench for those teams. I'm not knocking anybody. I just felt like we always ran into a buzz saw.

In '03, I was with the Braves and we ran into Kerry and Zambrano and Prior. The '03 Braves had one of the best lineups ever assembled and we got beat. Every year, we were running into something.

This is different. I feel we bring that as a team. In the playoffs, with our starting pitching, you run into Zambrano, a monster who can shut you down. You need to have that.

With our bullpen, and Lilly, we're solid. Plus, our offense is capable of scoring runs in a hurry with the home run ball. I know we didn't hit a ton during the season but it doesn't matter. You have Soriano and Ramirez and Lee in the lineup, and the ball is capable of leaving the yard in a hurry. I just feel we bring everything to the table. That's what you need in the postseason.

Lou deserves a lot of credit. The man came out of retirement to take a team that was in last place last year and win a division with it. A lot of credit goes to the front office and a lot goes to the Tribune Co. for getting Soriano and Lilly and Marquis. There were already players here who are very talented. You already had Aramis, who I came up with in the Minor Leagues and knew was a star. I think Lou deserves a lot of the credit, I really do.

Some think when you spend $300 million you should win. And we did. I think that's why the celebration was so emotional. We were so relieved. There were all the expectations put on us, and then what we went through in April and May, guys were frustrated. We were frustrated, and Milwaukee started the year 24-8 or something, and everyone said they were going to run away with it. People said we were dead. We found a way.

It was a gratifying moment for the team. Everybody played a part in it. It was nice.

We've got that Cubby swagger Lou talks about. The fans won't let us not have it.

Mark,

Although I'm a diehard, lifelong Mets fan, and disappointed in this season, I wish you and the Cubs the best of luck in the postseason. I would love to see the Cubs finally win a World Series, the fans deserve it. And if you get a chance, take out the Phillies for me!

Thanks

Gary

Mark,

Your addition to the club has been as important as anyones. Your ability to play many positions, and most importantly, your willingness to do it, has been invaluable.

Also, I have loved your personality as exhibited in interviews.

Go Cubs Go!!!!

Mark,

Congratulations on a great season thus far. You have had a great year along with the everyone else on the roster. I enjoyed watching you guys celebrate after clinching the division and I could see how much this season has really meant to you. Keep it up and go get the Diamnondbacks!!!!

im with gary. although the phillies wont be in it by the time the cubs make the NLCS.

Mark:

Congratulations to you and your teammates and the entire Cubs organization for giving the fans and the world and another division championship season.

AND GO CUBS GO!

Mark-
I like that we agree on this. The Cubs have the right team for this: good pitching, pen, and hitting. And once we get going, we can't be stopped. It would be huge to get Marquis back to what he was, if not Kevin Hart should be waiting ready to go. Cinci was great, I was down there and had a blast. Was it like playing at home b/c of the number of fans.

Eli

you have become a family favorite for the cubs, keep up and swing early on Webb.

Mark,

I sincerely echo Chad's comments. But let's not let all of these comments get all the way to you just yet-until you bring us a championship ;)!!!!

Mark, I'm not sure if you even will read these comments, but anyway.

You are one of the Cubs many MVP's. Always thinking of the team first. Always playing wherever needed (and spectacularly I may add). You always hit well no matter where you play, or where in the lineup. You seem like a great team member and just an all around awesome person.

I do have one request, if it wouldn't be too much. Could you sign autographs after Saturday's game? You are a role model for many people, and it would be an HONOR to have your autograph.

Mark-

Congrats on getting to the postseason. You have been an essential part of this Cubs team all year, and your versatility in the field and in different spots in the lineup has been truly remarkable. As a Cubs fan who currently lives in New Jersey, I have extra admiration for you. You represent Passaic well. Go Cubbies!

Mark-
I want to congratulate you and the Cubs on winning the division and you guys made my October! I have'nt been this excited since 2003 and I think it's a much better team than 2003! Please win the World Series for us Cubs fan's and especially (should be hall of fame) Ron Santo! You have done alot for the Cubs and I like to watch you play! Keep up the good work and Go Cubs!

R.J. Teets from Effigham, IL.

Mark,

It was never easy growing up in Jersey being a Cubs fan, having to deal with Yankee fans rubbing it in my face how they were winning championships every year. But this year, you and the Cubbies have given me and the rest of my fellow displaced Jersey Cubs fans hope. There's a lot of people who support you guys out here, as well as around the country. ****, there's probably more Cubs fans in Arizona than there are D-backs fans! Anyway, go get 'em.

This is the first time I been home to celebrate a Cubs Division championship. I want to congratulat you and the team for getting the Cubs back into the postseason. Good luck and God Bless. GO CUBS.

Mark,

Good luck in the NLDS. Play loose and have some fun! Go Cubs!

Mark,
Congrats on making it to the postseason. Good luck and have fun. Go Cubs!

Mark,

As a Cubs fan for 25 years, I've seen a lot of teams come and go. I always said that the reason for so much failure and frustration in the past is the inability of the team to play loose. Watching you and Jacque laughing and joking around in the duggout or in right-center really makes me believe the team has what it takes to deal with the pressure involved in dealing with the post season. The team has really earned it's success. good luck to you.

Hiya Markie.....I hope all you boys are staying hydrated and eating good food. Please also try to get a lot of sleep and call your moms to get some love. We are all behind you, wishing and hoping, and we will love you next year no matter what. Let's have some fun!!!

It's been a blast watching you and the guys win this year. Best of luck in the post season! I was a huge Jody Davis fan, and now I am a huge Mark DeRosa fan - go #7!! and GO CUBS GO!!!!

Mark-I have to say I never lost faith in early April I went with friends to Milwaukee to catch a cubs -brewers game, it was snowing outside and it wasn't baseball weather at all, but inside it was electric. A photographer offered our group a picture and he said "don't you want a picture at the future world champions ball park?'I turned to him and said no and he started badgering me I was wearing a cubs jersey and he pointed out how they would win the division and we wouldn't. I turned and said come October I will get a picture at a world champions ball park but it won't be here, it will be at wrigley. I will never forget the look on his face when I said that. He couldn't beleive what i said to him. But I knew it then, I knew that no matter what happens from April till September you just have to get in, and we have the talent and the coaching to do this. You guys have given Cub's fan something to feel good about even after the heartbreak of '03 and struggles that followed.. Great job and congrats to our team on a NL central Championship!!! Go Cubs

DeRo,

I have been a Cubs fan my entire 25 years on this planet, this was one of the most exciting and frustrating seasons to watch. Thank you so much for stepping up when we needed you to play just about every position on the field, I think you are the only person in all of baseball who can turn a 6-4-3 double play all by himself. You are the embodiement of what it truly means to be a Cub, it would be an honor if your last game was played in a Cubs uniform. We are not done yet, but thank you for helping us get this far. GO CUBS GO!!!!

Mark,

You're quickly becoming a favorite Cub among diehard fans.

We love how you work the count and take the ball the other way. With that in mind, I thought the gameplan you guys had against Doug Davis the first time around was tremendous. The first 11 batters took a strike against a guy who has been known to be wild throughout his career.

I know the results didn't reflect it (3-1 loss), but I hope everyone is just as patient on Thursday night. I see that Davis is second (only behind Z) in the league in walks. That's something I love to see against soft-tossing lefties --- patience (because they like to nibble) and the discipline to take them the opposite way --- and you do a great job of both!

Good luck this week and go Cubs!

Mark, Great Job! I have been a die hard fan since I was a kid, and fortunately, a season ticket holder for 5 years.

I was there for the crash of 2003 and have been a little bitter since. When we went shopping this offseason, I honestly thought, Who is DeRosa? He wears #7 and looks a little like Walker...so big deal.

WOW! Way to blow that misconception and any expectations away!

I think you personify the additude that got us this far. "Whatever it takes!"

Nothing feels better than seeing each of you guys pitch in and look like your enjoying it.

I'll be in right field rain or shine watching You, The Riot, and D-Lee mow guys down!

GO CUBS GO!

Mark,

You are one of those players that Cubs fans dream of having on our team. You will always have our support, and hopefully, you'll finish your career here.

There is a reason why we have the best record in the NL since June 23rd (and second only to the Yankees). And, that reason is players like you. Guys that are not selfish, that take responsibility for their own actions and support each other. This is gonna be a wild ride. Thank you for playing so hard. - John Gundich

Mark, as a Cubs fan living in Seattle, I saw a lot of AL West games over the years, including many years of Lou Piniella and your last two seasons in Texas. I was absolutely out of my mind with joy when both of you were signed last winter. However, members of my die-hard family were mystified as to why the Cubs would sign another 2nd baseman! I kept assuring them that you played just about every position and brought a lot of heart and soul to the ballpark everyday.

Earlier in the season when the Cubs played a Sunday night game, I remember Joe Morgan giving you quite the positive rant, "sit tight, Cubs fans, this guy is going to show you what he can do."

Just reading this blog I can see that the Cubs fans have seen what you can do, and Holy Cow, do we love it and appreciate it!

Thanks for being the catalyst of making this quite the exciting regular season!

GO CUBBIES!

DeRo,I'm 35 years old and i've been a cub fan forever.I remember '84,'89,98'and for godsakes '03.In those times i've cried and cried asking myself why am i still a fan? When they traded Sammy and let Mo' get away I almost gave up on the Cubs. From '03 until now,our worst enemies all have won the world series, the last two being daggers(Whitesox&Cardinals). Please win the big one for all cub fans present and past this city deserves it.You guys can stake your claim as the best cub team ever if you do so.P.S.,Tell big Z to keep his head. congrats and GO CUBS GO!!!!!!!!!! E-Dub from Chicago.

Like many of the people that have commented before me here, I was born, brought up, and now am a certified consenting die hard Cubs fan. ... And already, I feel I've been through the ringer (e.g. 2003 and the subsequent Baker years). This year's roller-coaster ride has been tough, though not atypical for long-time Cubs followers. Mark, your addition to the team has proved to be a fantastic fit! I love to see you out there everyday, who knows in what position, playing with your whole heart, just as Cubs fans love to see guys play. We see that you have given yourself over to the team, and we appreciate the love with which you play every single day. Thank you. And best of luck in October!

Mark:

Love the blog and love the Cubs. I must say this has been a magical season for the Cubs and the fans. I had high hopes for this team and was boasting before the season started. When you guys got off to a slow start in April in May all my friends started saying to me time to say those famous words "wait till next year". But I just laughed at them and said "Wait till October." This group of guys in the clubhouse we have now have brought faith to Cubs fans everywhere no just bring us the ring and the mission will be complete. Let me hear ya now, "We're singing now GO CUBS GO, GO CUBS GO hey Chicago what do you say the Cubs are gonna win today."

In the recent Cubs.com poll about Cubs MVP, you ranked my vote. You have helped the Cubbies get back to the playoff and have been fun to watch. I'm a third generation die hard Cubs fan and thank you for the fun this year. It is with great hope that I watch you march on the the World Series!

Dude, just win man. I've been a Cubs my entire life. You have no idea how hard it is most seasons.... Let everyone in the clubhouse know that the Cubs faithful are always behind you guys. If you hear 40,000 fans screaming for you at Wrigley, realize there are another 4 million doing the same thing at home, no matter what the score is, how late in the game it is, we believe in you guys.

Mark,
I have to admit I was a little worried when the Cubs brought you in during the offseason, but I guess you showed me. I don't think the Cubs could have won the division without you and your willingness to play anywhere and do whatever was needed to win. Keep up the good work so that when we begin the season next year, we get to see you and the rest of the Cubs recieving your World Series rings!!! Go Cubs!!!!!!

Sincerely,

Thomas VB Decker

I just want to give props to J. Jones because I've heard he's had a rough start with some Cubs fans. He provided a needed spark when Soriano was injured, and beyond that has proved he is an asset. Not only that, but he seems like a winsome guy who really has fun on the field even in the face of criticism. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that we would not be here without J. Jones, not to mention you, Mr. DeRosa.

Cubs win! Cubs win! This is gonna be great to watch in October. I'm a life-long Cubs fan in south Florida and have my desk and exam room decorated with Cubs stuff. My co-worker, who is a Red Sox fan saw your picture and said she went to school with you in New Jersey. You were supposed to go to the 8th grade dance together. Her name is Jennifer Guzman. She brought in a couple of pics of you from back then. Tried to get her to switch teams but she loves her Sox!! go Cubbies!! Play good!!

Mark,

I remember you on the '03 Braves in the Cubs-Braves series you referred to; I remember what a pain in the *** you were against the Cubs! It is awesome to have you on our side this time!!

Congratulations to you and all of the '07 Cubs; you guys worked hard and really earned a spot in the playoffs! Have fun, relax and go do what you guys do best! LET'S GO CUBBIES!

Mark,
thanks for all you and guys have done. Congrats

Hey could you finally win this stuff for me. I have been waiting 52 years....

Hey Mark, you're a great baseball player, great man and a great contribution to this team! You should be proud of yourself, and your team mates. We're all rooting for you! I skipped school to go to the Rally. Chicago is with ya man!!! Bring it home boys!

Thanks for the great memories this year.

Dan

Jovan,

I just want to say how happy and excited i am,i have never been so confident and happy of our cubs this year. The only thing that i wish is that i lived in Chicago so i can go to cubs games.I live in California and with the Angels fans near me i bust out my cubs hat to represent the cubs in cali! I watch the cubs on wgn every year but for me its not enough cause i want to be at wrigley field. Some day i will.Great job Mark DeRosa!!

GO CUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

07!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark, I usually don't blog, but once I saw it was you, I had to! You speak of everyone else on the team, but yourself. That just epitomizes the character of you and the team! I firmly believe that we wouldn't be where we are without you. Your "whatever, whereever" attitude for the team is so refreshing in this era of egomaniacs (which, thankfully, we just don't have on the Cubs!). I've been following the Cubs for many, many years and I believe whole-heartedly that this is the most cohesive TEAM I've ever seen. And I have no doubt that we're gonna win it all this year! Tell the rest of the team to relax, have fun and know that your fans are 1000% behind you. I'll be there to cheer you on!!! GO CUBS!!!!

DeRo! First off you're the man. It's crazy how you played about every position on the field and just made everything look easy, I don't get it. Keep it up and I hope you'll be around for years. Go get a championship!! Go cubbies!!

Can you get me playoff tickets? Thanks!

This is the year!!!
At 56 Ive been a Cubs fan 50

years since Leo Durocher,Jack Brickhouse et.al.

You are one of the best Ive seen! Keep It Going!!!!

For The Team,The Fans,and History........DO IT!!!!!

Mark

You have been a great additon to this team and have in my opinion been the MVP of this team. Your ability to play numerous roles with other players hurt has been a catalyst to us winning the division. Good luck in the NLDS and to all of our players as well. We are proud of all of you

Thanks

a 40 year Cub Die Hard

I agree with Poloski123, Take care of yourselves an have fun, we'll deal with what those Yanks have to say. My heart is giving out on me, a WS WIN would be great medicine!

DeRo--

You are such a great team, not only a complete package but like a band of brothers. I really admire your work ethic and ability to keep it fun--like taking extra batting practice with a week left in the season to lighten the pressure on Soriano, Lee and Ramirez. And did it and it paid off going 5 for 5! You've been my favorite player all year Mark because you're willing to do whatever Lou tells you to do on any given day and you're almost always the first to meet the winning run at home plate or congratulate the pitcher on the mound after a game. It has been so much fun to watch this season and there is nothing better than baseball in October...especially when we get to see the ivy at Wrigley change colors! Go cubs go!!

Mr. DeRosa,

Anything you can do to convince Steve Trachsel that the NLDS is being played in Siberia would be greatly appreciated.

Go Cubs Go.

Mark,

You too have been a great reason for our success.

Thank you so much!

You have easily become a fan favorite because you are able to relate to us and for that, i love you!!!!

best of luck in the playoffs....bring us home that trophy!!!!!!!!

Mark,
I remember going to Richmond Braves games as a 9 or 10 year old and watching you play. One of the things that really stands out in my mind is you coming to the plate and the announcer declaring: "Now batting, Mark DAHHHH-ROW-SAH!" You have always been one of my favorite players because I was a utility player in high school. When I saw you were coming to my beloved Cubbies, I was estatic. Congrats on a great season, both personally and as a team. Let's bring home a ring!

Mike Schoeffel

This team has proven me and my pessimism wrong so many times - THANK YOU. Go out there and kick some snake-butt. And like so many hav said, how DO you play so many positions and make it look easy? You're insane! Best of luck! Also: tell somebody to hit one out to Waveland. That'll be the only way I can catch one since tickets sold out so quickly!

I don't have anything original to say on top of the other comments, but I figured extra support can't be a bad thing (regardless of how unoriginal). So thank you for your tremendous play and attitude this year, and I'll be at as many games as I possibly can, cheering you guys on! Best of luck, and see you in the World Series!

-Allison

DeRo,
You have been a great addition to the team this year. Your all-around play, consistency, and versatility have been valuable. The way the team played the last half of the season showed what the Cubs are about-- the most complete, balanced team in the NL. Like Lou says, if you play hard and have fun, there is no telling how far you(we) can go! Have a great postseason!

Tony Bravo

Thanks Mark for all your hard work and for being there to fill in anywhere on the field. A player that can play infield and outfield and make those adjustments without a hitch deserves a lot of credit. Through all of it, you've had a career year too and I'm proud to tell my Cub loving family that DeRosa is my favorite player on this star-studded lineup. NOW GET US A WORLD SERIES!!! :O)

Mark, YOU deserve a lot of credit for your selfless play and leadership. That seems to be the thrust of this group, a focus on the team rather than ego. We have also had a couple of Cubs who left some money on the table to show their loyalty and to bring in more talent -- that does not go unnoticed. "Swagger" has such an arrogant connotation though; how about confidence or conviction?

Mark,
My name is Adolfo, I live in Arkansas born in Chicago.

Been a cubs Fan for all 18 yrs ive been on alive. Men down here everyone is a Cardinals Fan you dont know how great it is to be able to rub it into their face. Hey you and the team need to bring a Championship to Chicago Go get em and keep up the hot bats.

DeRo,
Though I am a huge fan and hope us Cubbies have an amazing post season, I really want to see you guys win the World Series for the fans like my grandpa and uncle. You guys have had a great season and I can't imagine how amazing it would be to see the Chicago Cubs 2007 World Champs! Good luck and this season has been a blast!!!!

Marky Mark,
You've made us feel really good, us Cubs fans thank you! "I'm a desperate believer"!

Scott P. from Lemont

Mark,

I have to echo many of the other comments by saying that you definitely deserve plenty of the credit for the Cubs being in the playoffs. I don't know what would have happened if we didn't have you on the roster, playing basically any position on the field...and playing them well. I think that many fans were thinking of doomsday scenarios when Aramis was injured, but WOW...you did a great job filling in for him at third. Your offense has been excellent as well. Basically, as I'm sure you know, you quickly became an important part of this team. And we fans think you're an all-around awesome guy!

I'm really looking forward to watching you guys play this October. This season has already been a great one, but I think that you guys have the skill and confidence to go all the way. Yep, the swagger is back, and we Cubs fans are loving it!

Good luck! Have fun playing in Arizona! We'll see you guys when you get back to Chicago on Saturday!

Mark,

I've been a DIEHARD cubs fans for all my life (20 years) and all I have to say is..

I believe. This is it :)

Thank you for everything you've done for the club. When we signed you in the off season I ran around my basement screaming with excitment.

We've always been around in the spring to see the ivy bloom and grow.. lets be there to see it fade into fall. world series time baby!

"Go cubs go, go cubs go, hey chicago whattya say? THE CUBS ARE GONNA WIN TODAY!"

let's get some runs! :)

Mark,

Looking forward to your blog for the rest of the month!

Go Cubs...

Check out this... Cubs lows and high's from 2007:

Mark,
I am a life long Cubs fan and remember the fold of 1969..Seeing the Mets go down in a blase helped ease the pain...Just a little. And last night watching the Podes get theirs helped me forget about 1984 ..Just a little..This year's team made me very proud..To be nine games under 500 and come off the deck like you all did was something to behold..LOU spent three years with the Rays and being from Tampa Bay.I saw a very proud man and a good baseball mind go thur ****..I am glad he is with my favorite team and my hope is you all are having fun playing for him ,the city and the great fans of the Cubs..Good Luck and try to keep Scott out of the scoreboard..I know he is hard to control, but you might be able to contain him....Joe the Beerman from Bradenton by way of South Bend

I love the last line in the blog. DeRo you are my hero.

Hey Mark, Like the other fans have posted, My October could not be better! As a cub fan since 1979, I've been dreaming of us winning the World Series! I don't want to get way ahead of myself, but I really think you guys have what it takes this year. I know I'm just a mom from the suburbs, but my hubby and kids think that I'm a little obsessed. I actually told them back in 2004 that 2007 would be the Cubbie's year. They all laughed at me, because fans usually say "next year" but I kept saying, not '05 or '06 but 2007. I don't know why,I just had this gut feeling. Now that you made it to the playoffs, my husband thinks it's all a little uncanny and actually creepy. But I've never given up faith that this is the year! I've never been to a playoff game, and I didn't get lucky with tickets this time either (like my 20th attempt) but I will be rooting you on from my home in Aurora. You guys are the absolute best. Thank goodness for Sweet Lou!
Janet Solis "GO CUBS GO!"

Mark,

I am a third generation Cub fan, and an attorney who now lives in Hawaii! I have watched over 120 games this year on TV and came to see you in Chicago and SF for six games. There is no place like Wrigley Field, is there? I agree the team has the talent. Other team's sportscasters acknowledge this as well. When you guys are clicking, you cannot be stopped offensively. Lou just has to be very careful with his selection of relief pitchers so he does not give away the game. I think this is key. That is the pattern I have noticed all year when the Cubs have lost. Mitigating this damage should yield great results. Good luck and keep swinging that bat!

Frank Lockwood from Hawaii

Mark, I have been a Cubs fan for about 23 years and have never felt as good about this team as I do now. I just want to congratulate you and the Cubs on a great season and I hope you guys can ride this bull all the way to the World Series!

Thats great that we got a swagger going into the dance and we finally wrapped up the division but.....I've been a Cub fan my whole life, made the pilgrimage to Wrigley, been to Arizona for Spring training, Cubfest etc.. The one fact that stands out this year is that anything less then a WS victory realistically means nothing! I've been through the heart ache enough to know at least that. When the tribsters spent $300 Million not only were you guys expected to win the division but the whole darn thing! Congrats a great season and the division crown, now lets finish this thing with what all of us diehard Cub fans deserve!

Mark,

I have to say that you are my favorite player. I cannot believe all the things you have done this year. I honestly think you have been the greatest addition this year. Oh, and my DeRosa jersey arrived today just in time for the playoffs. Thanks for making this year great. Good luck to you and the entire team.

I had surgery on June 20th after which I was bed ridden for two weeks. During that time, the Cubs made their turn around for the season. It was awesome to watch and kept my spirits up during my recovery! You have been such an important addition to this team and Lou has given this team the confidence and leadership it needs to go all the way! Thanks for the great summer. Best of luck to you all, I will be cheering for you!

Mark, as a fan I just thank the whole organazation for making the commitment and aquiring guys like u'r self. The whole team has shown it can compete and has the fight of a winner. LOUuuuuuuuuu

Mark,
Congrats on great season. Go win the World Series for us life long die-hards that still have nightmares about 1969, 1984, and 2003. My neighbor is 94 years old, on oxygen and will die a happy man when you guys lift that world's championship trophy.

Just to let you know, in the event that you do read these comments, that you are a great addition to the Cubs. You did everything and played every position you were asked to, and you did a great job at all of them. Go win the pennant and series for all of us Die Hard Cubs Fans.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for taking the time to post for the fans. I (former v.p. of the Bill Bucker fan club, 1978) have been with the Cubs my whole life - sitting in the old ball park when it wasn't trendy, the stands were empty in parts and you could move down to empty seats later in the game. The culture is different but the old ball park is the same. I grew up with the Big Red Machine & the Dodgers and Yankees post-season teams of the late 70's. I wanted to watch baseball - good baseball - even if the Cubs weren't there. I always appreciated "old school" ballplayers who always hustled and played the game the right way. Lou played the game the right way. You play the game the right way and it's a pleasure to see. I haven't let my heart get fully into pennant hopes for the Cubs this year - 2004 was crushing (way worse than the 'lovebale losers' of the '70's). I have total faith in Lou (he walks on water - lol). I sense that this is a special group of guys. It would mean SO much to us lifelong fans to see the old ballpark (and Jack Brickhouse, Lou Boudreau, Vince Lloyd, Harry, Ron, Ernie etc.,) smile. Keep up your wonderful attitude - I can see that you truly love (and respect) the game. One win at a time, just like during the season. At the very least, it's been a great ride (thanks for that). You guys CAN do this...one game at a time.

Marc congradulation's on a fine season. I just want to say that it takes 25 player's to win a Championship but, your contributions this year were outstanding. The way you filled in at other position's was amazing. The fact you saved our Bacon playing 1B,3B and OF as needed and still was a key offensive player. I feel that you were the Cub MVP this year. I have been a Cub Fan since 1948 that is when we had Double Play Combination of Verban to Smalley to the Dugout. One thing most people can't understand, that a Cun Fan may critize on poor play but, we never Abandon. GO CUBS GO.
Marc I see you having a great Serie's.

Mark--I am so glad you came over to the Cubs! I really like the make-up of this team. Can't wait to see the Cubs play in World Series! Good Luck to you, the team and Lou.

Marc,
Thank you for a great year. Please tell your teammates that this is the real deal. I haven't seen a winning home playoff game in person since the '98 wildcard 1 gamer. During the year I attended Lou's blowup game and the donnybrook against the Padres. Not all bad. I probably won't get there, but hey there will be alot of us there in spirit. A phenomenal year! Win it for my dad, please!

Mark: You've read it all here. We're Cubs fans. We love you guys. We support you. We have been waiting faithfully a LONG time. We've felt the pain and disappointment but we always come back hoping that THIS time will be it. Well, I'm here to say, "This time will be it!" I think you and Ryan Theriot were the glue that held this team together. Sure, Aramis, Derek, Alfonso... were there, but you and Ryan filled all the little gaps. Your willingness to take on any job at any place. We Cub fans appreciate that attitude. May this be the year!

Mark DeRosa I hope the Cubs have the best postseason in the history of the franchise. I hope they go unbeaten during the playoffs. I have been a Cubs fan fan for 17 years. I also have a 93 year old grandpa who has never seen you win a world series in his lifetime. Also if you win the world series can the cubs plan a east coast celebration trip? I live in Shelburne, Vermont.

Mark,

You are right. Lou does deserve a lot of credit, but so do you. In my opinion, you are the team's MVP! Thanks for all your hard work, and good luck in the post season!

Mark,
Cub fan from South Dakota for over 37 years - I beleave that you were one of the best acquisitions that the club made for the this year, you preform great where ever you were needed - you helped bring back the CUBBIE swagger--keep it up. I was at Wrigley when they clenched the 2003 Central Division what a great feeling & this year from home was just as great the team did a great job!--- Lets go all the way !!!

I have never saw a team make a come back like the Cubs did this regualr baseball season. Not only the big names, but the whole team made huge plays every game and that is what count. The Cubs have great leadership on and off the field, the Cubs palyed togther, won togther, lost togther, and at the ned of a very long season the Cubbies made it to the postseason togther. te comeback, and the filp-folping first place with the Berwers, the trade of a great cacther, the drougths of some players, and the injurys when the piled up none of that stoped this team and thats what matters the most. the Cubbies may not have the most win in the regualr season,a nd they may not have the best record as a team overall, but they have hreat and soul and thats whats going to help them win in the postseason. If the players stay the same for years to come and the leadership on and off the feild I see a new birghter furtrue for this team.

I'AM A CUBS FAN FOR LIFE....

GO CUBBIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DE-RO!! You are truly amazing! This season has been so exciting...even more than 2003. You are a huge part of it, hey how about a nice 5 for 5 on Wednesday night to start us off?!! Thanks De-Ro and of course GO CUBBIES!!

Mark, I really feel the grand slam you hit early in the year was the single AB that started turning things around. The Cubs became a better one run and come from behind team after that.
I predicted to friends that the Cubs would be in first place or tied on August 1, and you came through for us. Jim Hendry has made only one obvious mistake in player transactions since January, so he and Lou should take Mgr and Exec of the year awards. Keep up the good work!!!

Hey De-Ro!!!

I just wanted to say i love you and you are so amazing...what you have done for the team this year has been unbelievable...not many people can play as many positions that you have done this year....good luck in the playoffs...i hope you stay with the Cubs a loooooong time....and i hope someday to meet you!

I <3 you De-Ro! Tell the guys we're all cheering for them!!

GO CUBS!

HI MARK! i am very proud of all you guys,& coaches, piniella is the man!!i have been a die hard fan for 35 years! win or lose! but 99 years is long enough it is time!!records or past performances mean nothing,it is a fresh new season now,& a short one!!take it one game at a time!!tell your teammates to just play loose, have fun,and execute!tell them to do the little things to set up runs & score, swing at good pitches,be patient at the plate! make the pitcher work!dont rely on the long ball to score,i think that is a mistake & puts too much pressure on guys to hit home runs!!help keep our pitchers confident and loose by supporting them with hits & runs!tell all the guys to take batting practice!!! take every advantage you guys can,to be at the best you can be! and i believe the cubs will win the world series! stay focused & patient but have fun!!support and pump eachother up!!the millions of CUBS fans believe in you guys!IT HAS BEEN A TEAM EFFORT THAT GOT YOU GUYS HERE! KEEP IT UP!!i dont believe in jinx's they do not exist!!YOU GUYS CAN DO IT!!YOU GUYS HAVE AS GOOD A TEAM AS ANYONE!! MAKE HISTORY!! GO CUBS!, WE LOVE YOU!, ARE PROUD OF YOU!! & SUPPORT YOU NO MATTER WHAT!!

This is awesome, Mark! I am a transplanted Cubs fan who now lives in Mesquite, Texas. I attended the first game of the Rangers series. There were 3 times as many Cubs fan there as there were Rangers fans. I am currently nine months pregnant and due anyday. I told the doctor today that I won't have this baby this week unless the hospital has TBS. There is NO WAY I am missing the play-offs! Thanks for a great season. I even love all the drama! Play hard...have fun!

Hey Mark,
Congrats on winning the division! I am so excited for the Cubs. I am so proud to call myself a Cubs fan. I knew that our time would come and now it’s here. Like you and Lou said, you got that Cubbie Swagger. I never lost faith in you guys. Lou and all the guys on the team have done an outstanding and amazing job this year. Like I told all those people who doubted the Cubs, THIS IS THE YEAR OF THE CUBS! Hands down this team has done some amazing things this year and I know you guys will finish off strong! GO CUBS GO!

Hi Derosa
I would just like to congragilate you for winning the division. This year has been tough on me because my grandpa passed away but the you and the Cubs have helped me through it. In Wisconsin there are not enough Cub fans, but I am roting for you.

Go Cubs Go

I don't even know what to say because everyone above me has already said it, but just know that I too am a die-hard and what you guys have done this year has caused me so much joy and late-night cheering and many "happy dances" at work. Thank you for that. I've been a Cubs fan since '95, and '98 and '03 were a lot of fun, but not quite good enough. I'm tired of hearing the Sox fans go on and on about their World Series win. It really is our turn. It's 99 years, and I don't particularly feel like making it 100.

Go, Cubs, Go!!!

Love the CUBS. When I found out you were signed with the Cubs I was happy because of your good numbers and the fact we were actually going to have a solid and dedicated 2nd baseman. I just wanna say, you've become my FAVORITE Cub...still love Zambrano for holding the pitching down, but "Rosa" as I chant to the TV all the time, I really appreciate your hard work and dedication to the TEAM and not yourself. A lot of guys would complain about moving to RF, 3rd, etc. You handled the JOB. Everything I think a great ballplayer should represent. And such a great job at the plate in my opinion. Keep up the good work and even if it doesn't work out this season, you are still a champ in my book. I love baseball and the Cubs because of athletes like yourself.
GO CUBS GO!

Hey DeRo~
I'm glad you took the time to create this blog. I think you and the '07 Chicago Cubs are AMAZING! The year didn't start out easy but you stepped it up after the All-Star break and LQQK where we are. We are already proud of you and pray that you will go all the way. I can't wait until you come home as WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS! Camaradie -it's a great thing!! We could really see it and feel it among you all. Tell Carlos from me "que tenga buena suerta" for Wednesday night. GO CUBS,GO!! WE LOVE YOU.

DeRo- You are my favorite Cub. You can play anywhere and you play hard and never complain. I wish you the best and I hope you win the series. I have been a Cub fan for 40 years and it is your time now. Go get em.

Hey Mark,
Congratulations on a thrilling regular season! I remember my friends and I being ecstatic all the way back in the winter when we heard you'd been signed. It was great to hear you talk about how excited you were to be a Cub and play here, and in turn, you were instantly part of the family. All of Cub Nation is proud to have you on the team - you had a rough start but didn't let it or the media get to you, instead coming through in the clutch and putting up ridiculous numbers the rest of the way. You never once complained about playing time, but let your game do the talking - a class act all the way. To you and the rest of the 2007 Cubs, thanks for hanging tough and putting away the Brewers. It's been an amazing season, and I'll be one of the millions and millions of Cub fans watching you guys in the playoffs every step of the way!

Hey Mark,

I am so happy for you guys! As a lifelong Cubs fan it is always wonderful to see the team come together and pull out a division title! Best of luck in the playoffs and to you who I believe is the team MVP for your consistency and tenacity. Chop the heads off those snakes! GO CUBS GO!

Mark,
Your amazing performances in September and throughout the season were a joy to watch. Myself and all other Cubs fans in the Valley of the Sun will try to give you guys a home field advantage in Games 1 and 2

Mark,
Like the rest of the fans, I just want to say thanks for all of your selfless play this year. You seem to be the definition of a team player and it's a joy to watch you.

A 40 year Cub fan here. It's been a fun year and you guys are a fun team to watch. Good Luck in bringing home a World Series Championship

GO CUBS GO!!!

Hi Mark,
I have been a diehard Cubs fan for 41 years and while I am very familiar with the Cubs roster, I don't often know players on other teams. So, when they said you would be our new 2nd baseman, I said, "Who is this guy?" Well, I learned quickly and have to say that the Cubs did well finding you.

Over the years, it rarely happened that I have had favorite players.....I just LOVE all the Cubs. This year though, I must say that you have been a standout and if asked, you would be my top choice for MVP. I bet that if they asked you to pitch, you would give it a try. You are such a selfless player.

Thanks for always doing whatever it takes to help the team. Keep up the good work and best wishes in the playoffs. I hope you are a Cub for the remainder of your career.

Go Cubs,

Dianne

Mark,
I am glad the Cubbie swagger is back- you deserve it as much as anyone. I was a huge Todd Walker supporter, but I must say that without taking anything away from him, I hope you remain at 2nd base for us for the remainder of your career. You are selfless, kind, caring, and on top of that an AMAZING all-around player. I really think you should be in the running for MVP. I am hoping you and the rest of the teammates make it back to Joan Martin for the Cubs Caravan this year- you are such an inspiration to our students. Maybe you can bring a WS trophy, too. ;)

Hey Good Luck you guys kick some *** and take names. I like the late starts with work so I can watch the first two. My fantasy team name was kill the goat. So put the F$%^&^$ on a spit and "Git er Done. Blair #69

Mark

First of all congrats and good luck. I've been a Cubs fan ever since I can remember. You have been a great addition to the team. I know it's hard to play multiple positions, but you make it look easy. Stay sharp and pound the D-Backs.

Mark,
Thanks for the fantastic season. You and the rest of the team have brought so much joy to my life this year.

Good luck in the desert, Cubbies!

Hi Mark!

I think it is wonderful that you are doing this blog! I can tell by the interviews you give that you are very happy and excited to be in Chicago, and the fans LOVE you for that, and ESPECIALLY ME! haha. =)

I just moved from Chicago to Arizona in May and I miss my Cubbies- so I am glad you all are going to be here for a few days! Saw 3 games here in August and fly back to Chicago a lot BUT there's nothing better than watching you guys in October in my new home state! I will be at all the games and I am SO EXCITED! From what I noticed there are A LOT of Cubs fans here that will be cheering you guys on! Best of luck to all of you + obviously, GO CUBS! <3

Hi Mark, I think you are a totally awesome player and you have done the Cubbies proud this year. I took my daughter to Atlanta for the first 2 games back in 2003 and it was so wonderful but this year is even more so. I really believe you guys are going to win it all and you are going to do it for the greatest fans in all of sports. Good luck to you and all the guys as you start counting down the new magic number of 11. GO CUBS

Hi Mark...if you are not on top of the world, you should be. You worked long and hard to get to this place and everyone who really matters is behind you 1000%. You guys are all lucky to have each other and if "wins" come to those who deserve them... you and the Cubs will come out on top while I once again struggle in Boston with Red Sox Nation. It isn't pretty!

Go for it. Great year. Keep it up ! GO CUBS !!

Mark--THANKS to you and the entire CUBBIES team for a WONDERFUL season. I grew up in Illinois and have been a Cubs fan all my life. I now live in South Carolina but still go to Chicago at least twice a season to see my Cubbies. I was recenetly in Chicago for the September series against the Reds--Thanks so much for a couple WONDERFUL games!!!! Best of luck to you and all the guys in the post-season. CUBBIES ALL THE WAY!!!!!!

Lynn in South Carolina

Hey Mark,

congratulations to you and the rest of the Cubs! I had a feeling early in the season that this was the team. Here's a song I was singing before the all-star break:

"If the Cubs Could Win It All" (sung to the tune of If I Only Had A Brain from the Wizard of Oz)

The Brewers will be grievin'

and Cub fans are believin'

that the Cubs are playing tall.

Our glasses we'll be toasting

and the Cubs will be boasting

if the Cubs could win it all.

Penant banners will be flyin',

joyful eyes will be cryin'

when the Cubs play in the fall.

and Harry Cary will be shoutin'

up in heaven that the Cubs win

If the Cubs could win it all.

99 years is a long time

and '03 was such a sad time

with Bartman and the ball.

But, "Go Cubs!" we'll be hearin',

even Sox fans would be cheerin'

if the Cubs could win it all.
